We offer tours in and around the beautiful Woodridge, New York area.
Our main guided tour is along the rustic two mile unpaved trail, (considered beginner to intermediate in ‘trail skill’ level, shown below) from Mountaindale to Woodridge in Sullivan County, NY, via a route formerly used by the New York, Ontario, and Western Railway's Main Line. The "Rail Trail" is the perfect scenic trail system - and even more perfect via Segway!
WE WILL COME TO YOUR CAMP or EVENT! We will bring segways to you for tour of your camp area. A preliminary training session teaches your participants - 13 and up - safety and riding techniques. Following the training session, we will tour your countryside.
What is a Segway?
The Segway Human Transporter is the best way too see the true beauty of Upstate New York's beautiful natural trails. The Segway Human Transporter is a self-balancing, personal transportation device. It's surprisingly easy to operate, too!
The two-wheeled Segway sports high-tech gyroscopes that automatically respond to your body's movements, "sensing" when it should speed up and slow down. You stand on a small platform between the left and right wheels as you hold onto handlebars at a comfortable waist height. It's casually comfortable!
The Segway balances for you, so that you're always upright as you zip around town, scoot down a trail, or simply glide around. Operation is natural and intuitive.
The Segway is a GREEN TRANSPORTATION ALTERNATIVE! In addition to being fun to ride, the Segway HT is environmentally friendly with zero emissions and the ability to alleviate traffic and parking problems.
How it works!
When inventor Dean Kamen unveiled the Segway Human Transporter (HT) on ABC's Good Morning America, he described the machine as the world's first self-balancing human transporter. To move forward or backward on the Segway HT, the rider just leans slightly forward or backward.
To turn left or right, the rider simply turns the steering grip left or right. This balancing act is the most amazing feature of the Segway and the key to its operation.
The Segway System
To understand how this system works, it helps to consider Kamen's model for the device - the human body. If you stand up and lean forward to the point at which you are out of balance, you probably won't fall. Your brain knows you are out of balance because fluid in your inner ear shifts, and it triggers you to put your leg forward and stop the fall. If you keep leaning forward, your brain will keep putting your legs forward to keep you upright. Instead of falling, you walk forward, one step at a time. The Segway HT acts in a similar fashion except with wheels instead of legs, a motor instead of muscles, microprocessors instead of a brain, and tilt sensors instead of an inner-ear balancing system. Like your brain, the Segway knows when you are leaning forward. To maintain balance, it turns the wheels A Segway gives you the ability to move faster and carry more, so you can commute, shop, and run errands more efficiently while also adding a little fun to your day. It's compact, yet powerful and rechargeable from any wall outlet. The Segway HT will change the way you think about travel.
