Founded in 1975, The Special Consensus is a professional four-person bluegrass band that tours nationally and internationally. The group has released 11 recordings and appeared on numerous radio and television programs nationwide, including National Public Radio and the Nashville Network.

The group created the Traditional American Music (TAM) in 1984 with the objective of introducing students to bluegrass music, an American-born form of traditional music. The group’s in-school program includes music performances interspersed with an explanation of how bluegrass music originated, the composition and the purpose of each instrument and its role of the band. The group also discusses how its vocal harmonies are blended.

Special Consensus’ mix of great music and enlightening educational program have made them a popular act at schools, libraries, family nights and a host of other events.
